your straight lines comings-of-age marriage proposals & lost teeth pulls
a chain taut across a foreshortened future & this pile of candy that weighs my body scatters
to the edges of tables upon which i place my 9-to-5 trapped in your hourglass
with sand that blows across the ravine i stare down at only nineteen where i live in
the cusp the curtains the jagged hills the final lines a chronic progressive terminal
relapsing stages periods phases which is a word i've never escaped like i did my
double-life adolescence spent wandering wondering where i was
before i opened this door or charted the alleys of this city & just saying before places me in
the middle of a sentence that strings life as partitions as checklists i must tick & not
cusp the curtains the jagged hills the final lines i return to paralyzed waiting for the day i
drift crawl backtrack plummet fall tumble or when i’ll dot my i's cross my t's & run
out of ands & ampersands watch my final full stop slip through the sand
